Privacy Policy

LOOP ("LOOP", "we", "us") operates the LOOP messaging service on the web and as iOS and Android apps at talkonloop.com. If you have any privacy question, email privacy@talkonloop.com.

• Account details — email address, username, display name, and the password or sign-in provider you choose.
• Profile details — profile photo, native language, optional secondary language, and country/region so others see where you're messaging from.
• Approximate location — only if you enable it. We use it to set your country flag and to power Discover. We do not track your continuous movement or store location history.
• Messages and content — your chats, group messages, replies, reactions, saved messages, stories (auto-deleted after 24 hours), photos, stickers, GIFs and voice notes.
• Translations and transcripts — the translated version of each message and the text transcript of each voice note, so the other person can read it in their language.
• Device and usage data — device type, app version, push notification token, online/last-seen status, and basic diagnostics.

When you send a message, its text (or the transcript of your voice note) is sent to our translation and speech providers so it can be delivered in the recipient's chosen language. Providers process this content only to return the translation or transcript, and are not permitted to use your content to train their models. Translations are stored with the message so chats load instantly.

Machine translation is not perfect. Do not rely on LOOP translations for medical, legal, financial or safety-critical decisions.

• Creating your account, profile, LOOP code and Discover presence.
• Sending the push notifications you've enabled, honouring your quiet hours and preview settings.
• Keeping LOOP safe — preventing spam, abuse, fraud and account takeover.
• Fixing bugs, measuring reliability and improving the product.
• Complying with legal obligations and enforcing our Terms.

• People you message, and members of groups you join, see your messages, profile photo, name, username, country and language.
• Anyone with your username or LOOP QR code can start a chat with you. If you turn on 'Hidden from Discover', you stop appearing in Discover but existing chats and code/username lookups still work.
• Service providers who host and run LOOP for us: cloud database and storage, translation and speech-to-text, and push notification delivery.
• Law enforcement or regulators, only where we are legally required to respond.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not run third-party ad tracking.

Messages are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and encrypted at rest by our cloud provider. Access to your data is restricted by row-level database rules so only you and the people in your conversations can read your messages. LOOP does not currently offer end-to-end encryption — our servers process message content in order to translate it. No online service can promise perfect security.

• Messages stay in your chats until you or another participant deletes them, or until you delete your account.
• Stories are automatically deleted 24 hours after posting.
• Deleting a chat removes it from your device and your account view.
• Deleting your account removes your profile, messages, media and translations. Backups roll off within 30 days.

To delete your account, email privacy@talkonloop.com from your account address and we'll action it within 30 days.

Depending on where you live (including the UK/EU under UK GDPR and GDPR, and California under the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, restrict or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can edit most of your data directly in the app under You. For anything else, contact us and we'll respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

LOOP is not intended for anyone under 13 (or under 16 where local law requires a higher age). If we learn that a child has created an account, we will delete it.

LOOP is a global service, so your data may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards with our providers.

We'll update this page when our practices change and revise the "last updated" date. Material changes will also be announced in the app.
